Welcome

Hi, Im Rae, and I am the one responsible for this blog.

This blog has been set up to help you draw and colour in your very own cartoon animal.

If there are any specific animals you wish to learn how to draw, please let me know, and I will set up a tutorial for you.

Hope you find this blog useful.

Rae.

HOW TO DRAW A CARTOON DOG PART 1

Step 1

Make sure you have all the materials to start this tutorial:

  • Paper
  • Pencils
  • Rubber
  • Sharpener
  • Crayons/Felt tips.

HOW TO DRAW A CARTOON DOG PART 2

Step 2

Have a general idea of what animal you wish to draw. For this tutorial we will be concentrating on how to draw a cartoon dog, but the first stages of drawing can be made into any type of animal (cat, rabbit etc).

Step 3

Make sure that you have adequate space to draw, obviously I’m not talking miles and miles of space, anything from a clear desk or any flat surface you feel comfortable sitting at for a while.

HOW TO DRAW A CARTOON DOG PART 4

Step 4

To begin your dog, start off my drawing a dog’s nose, this will be the centre point for the face.

Step 5

Next, draw an upside down M, leading from the bottom of the nose, when you have finished the M, continue on round in a circular movement and join it just above the nose. This will make the muzzle of the dog.

Step 6

When you have done this, draw a semicircle underneath the muzzle, starting half way through the M, and finishing around the same place on the other side. This will make the mouth.

Step 7

Next, at the top of the muzzle, draw two long semicircles (example like rabbit ears), making sure that they meet in the middle. After this draw two circles in the middle of these. These will make the eyes.

Step 8

Next, draw a semicircle around the eye beginning and ending on the muzzle, this will make the head.

HOW TO DRAW A CARTOON DOG PART 9

Step 9

Next, are the ears. In this tutorial, I’m going to give the dog droopy ears, like a Bassett hound, but what type of ears you have on your dog is up to you. Starting on the side of the head, again drawing a very long semicircle, and making it meet at the side of the muzzle. Repeat again on the other side, and this makes your dog’s ears.

Step 10

Next on the list, is the body. Starting from the semicircle for the mouth, draw two straight lines, angles slightly inwards, and stop around a cm down, this will make the neck. Next, draw a shape resembling a ten pin, below the neck, make it as big or as small as you like. This will make the body. At the end, draw the paws, which should resemble 3 upside down N’s, making sure they meet in the middle. After this, in the middle, drawing a line straight up, to around half way up the body, this will make the illusion of front legs.

Step 11

As we all know, dogs have four legs, so we will need to draw in the hind legs. From just under the half way mark on the body, draw two hind leg shapes, and then add the paws that were mentioned in the last step.

Step 12.

Most dogs have a tail, if you wish your cartoon dog to have a tail then follow this step, but it is entirely up to yourself.

To make the tail, start at the point where the hind leg on the left or right joins with the body. To draw a bent tail, use the shape of a banana as a shape guide for this, or if you would like a straight tail, use the long semicircle shape that we have used for the ears.

And behold you have a cartoon dog. If you are feeling adventurous, you can add details to your dog like tufts of hair on the top of its head, a collar etc. And there you have it, one cartoon dog.
